Duct Sealing in Kansas City, MO

Why one room stays hot while the basement register roars

That imbalance is usually leakage, not a bad blower. Air escapes before it reaches the far branch. In pre-1980 galvanized trunk-and-branch systems, the leaks sit at crimped takeoff collars and drive cleats, under duct tape that dried and curled decades ago. Cloth tape fails. Mastic and mesh do not. We brush mastic on seams, then band the flex inner liner to the collar separately from the outer jacket.

Panned joist and stud-cavity returns are the bigger problem in Kansas City. A panned return is not a duct. It is framing with sheet metal nailed across it. That cavity breathes through every gap, so the return pulls in basement air and rim joist air, along with laundry lint. Sealing those panels changes what the house smells like.

Fiberglass ductboard plenums from 1960s-80s installs need different handling. Corners separate and the facing tears. Mastic over torn facing is a patch, not a repair.

Converted gravity-furnace octopus trunks often have an oversized plenum full of abandoned openings. Those get capped and sealed, not taped.

Sealing is not worth doing if flex is crushed or disconnected above a finished ceiling. Fix the duct first. Then seal it.

What happens after you call us

  1. 1

Call and tell us the age of the house and how many furnaces run it. We give you a two hour arrival window and the name of the tech coming to you.

  2. 2

We walk the basement or attic runs, count supply and return drops, and hand you a firm quote. Trunk size and register count drive the number, not square footage.

  3. 3

We seal the system, pull the lines, test airflow at each register, and vacuum up behind ourselves. You pay the quoted number, nothing added.
